The least populous district of Kerala, Wayanad, is a treasure of splendor. So intriguing is the pristine beauty of this place and there are so many elements to this land of green glory that one can never possibly fathom why exactly is this place not named heaven. Wayanad is a holiday destination that doesn’t have a niche in terms of being suitable only for couples on honeymoon or a group of adventure enthusiasts or simple nature lovers. This place encompasses so much within itself that there is ample scope for each kind of tourists to get enamored by the land.

  1. Trekking: Trekking has always been the most popular adventure activity, for it promises to thrill your senses and drive your adrenaline rush even if you are not a professional trekker. With its tropical savannahs, thick evergreen rainforests, majestic hills and mountains, and an enticing wilderness, Wayanad is an infinite land for a travel enthusiast.
Standing at 2,100m is the rugged terrain of Chembra peak, the tallest point in Wayanad. A beautiful marvel along this trail is the heart-shaped lake HridayaSaras. The trek uphill requires a trekker to cross seven hills before reaching the Chembra peak. It takes a maximum of three hours for even an untrained trekker to reach the peak. Only if you trek to the top of the peak would you be able to view the beautiful heart shaped lake, which is believed to have never dried up.
Other equally enthralling and awe inspiring trekking peaks in Wayanad included thePakshipathalam trek, the Banasura trek, the Brahmagiri peak trek and the Thusharagiri trek.
Enveloped in the wealth of greenery and scenic marvels of nature, these treks might help you rediscover your own self.

2. Wildlife Safari:  There are two popular wildlife sanctuaries, Begur wildlife sanctuary and the Wayanad wildlife sanctuary.
Wayanad wildlife safari offers an intimate rendezvous with the marvels of nature and wildlife wherein one can spot Elephants, Bisons, Tigers, Deers, other small animals & plenty of Birds.  Begur wildlife sanctuary is comparatively quaint and does not get many tourists as it is relatively unknown. Sanctuary allows to conduct tours in open jeeps on a one hour Safari covering about 20 kms through thick forest with plenty of Wildlife in a natural habitat.
